Incident vs Claims
Although incidents and claims are classified under events, they differ in the following ways:Incident
An incident refers to an unexpected event or occurrence that is recorded and tracked, as it can potentially become a lawsuit or claim.Claim
A claim is typically created when an incident leads to a formal lawsuit or a demand for money being made. Imagine a patient slipping on an icy sidewalk at a care facility. This is recorded as an incident since it could lead to legal action. If the patient or their representative later files a lawsuit or requests a settlement, it becomes a claim.Claims and Incidents follow the same creation process. To create one, follow the instructions for creating an Event.
Connecting Events with Policies
Events often need to be associated with insurance policies. If you’re having trouble connecting an event to a policy, or if you need to understand the relationship between events, policies, quotes, and brokerages, see our comprehensive Event to Policy Workflow guide.
