An event is a general term for things that happen, and it is divided into two groups: Incidents and Claims.

Incident vs Claims

Although incidents and claims are classified under events, they differ in the following ways:

Incident

An incident refers to an unexpected event or occurrence that is recorded and tracked, as it can potentially become a lawsuit or claim.

Claim

A claim is typically created when an incident leads to a formal lawsuit or a demand for money being made.

Imagine a patient slipping on an icy sidewalk at a care facility. This is recorded as an incident since it could lead to legal action. If the patient or their representative later files a lawsuit or requests a settlement, it becomes a claim.

Claims and Incidents follow the same creation process. To create one, follow the instructions for creating an Event.
